The Loyalty Purge
How Trump's GOP Destroys Anyone Who Won't Kneel
34+ Officials Purged · 10 of 10 Impeachment Voters Gone · $5,000/Day for Security
A very large portion of my party doesn't believe in the Constitution.— Mitt Romney, U.S. Senator (R-UT), September 2023 — paying $5,000/day for family security
Donald Trump does not just attack Democrats. He systematically destroys Republicans who defy him — and the party helps him do it. Cabinet secretaries, four-star generals, sitting senators, governors who won their states by double digits. No rank is high enough. No history of service is long enough. No voting record is loyal enough. One act of defiance — one moment where the law or the Constitution or basic decency mattered more than Trump — and it is over.
The pattern is identical every time. Loyal service. One act of integrity. Instant exile. Jeff Sessions endorsed Trump before anyone else — then Trump sabotaged his Senate comeback. Mike Pence defended Trump for four years — then a mob chanted "Hang Mike Pence" and Trump did nothing. Liz Cheney voted with Trump 93% of the time — then lost her primary by 37 points for the crime of investigating January 6th. The message to every Republican in America is simple: obey or be destroyed.
But the purge is bigger than individuals. It has reshaped the party's relationship to its own principles. When Trump says the FBI is the enemy, thirty years of "back the blue" evaporates overnight. When Trump calls for the "termination" of the Constitution, nine out of ten elected Republicans stay silent. When Trump praises dictators, the party that built its identity on fighting communism applauds. Evangelical Christians who once said personal morality was essential to leadership — 30% agreed that immoral leaders could govern ethically in 2011 — now say the opposite. By 2016, that number had swung to 72%. The base doesn't follow principles. It follows Trump.
What remains is not a political party in any recognizable sense. It is a loyalty apparatus — a machine that exists to identify, punish, and replace anyone who puts anything above one man. The purged are not traitors. They are the people who, for one moment, remembered what they were supposed to believe in.
